Really thick layered hair, how can I get it straight and not so big??

I used to have long hair swept back into a pony tail for years and recently I had my hair cut to shoulder length and layered. It looked fab in the hairdressers and now I'm back home and 2 weeks later I can't make it look anything like it looked at the hairdressers! I try to blow dry it straight and then straighten it with straightners but for some reason it just volumizes and ends up looking like I have had an electric shock! Help!!

Good straighteners should do the trick, but you also need to use a straightening product which will both protect your hair and stop it going frizzy/fluffy which would make it look bigger. Next time you have it cut make sure there aren't too many of the shorter layers as those are the ones that make it look bigger (or they do with my hair). Good luck!

try having it cut in a style and thinned a bit.

I have this problem, you may need hotter straighteners. My straighteners are rubbish and do exactly the same as yours. My hairdresser told me its because they don't get hot enough. She uses GHD ones (mine are Babyliss).

Ooh forgot to mention, I always use a defrizz solution but this still doesn't help with my straighteners...

u can go back to your stylist and tell them to thin you hair for you or use defrizzing styling products when straighting your hair it should get rid of the volume.

try using avon heat spray(this helps to protect your hair), then brushing hair onto oposite side when drying. When you have done this take SMALL sections of hair and run straighteners through, once very quickly then 2nd time a little slower applying a little pressure, but don't take to long as some can sing your hair, you could also use the avon heat spray before you put straigheners through hair(I use remengton straigteners) I hope this helps.

go and try hair rebonding to straighten it..then chop them with some layered style..they lessen the volume v the right cut..try to use some stronghold gels and creams to weigh it down

rebonding yr hair should do ther trick... it's kinda like straightening that lasts from 6-12mths... my sis has hair like yrs, and ppl used to call her aslan from the chronicles of narnia... she rebonds her hair every year.... it's a 3rd time and her hair now is 'normal'

neway, do not cut yr hair in layers! it'll make yr hair at the tips all frizzy... my frens all agree with me too!

try using super skinny serum by Paul Mitchell and a flat iron, that should do the trick.

Hmm, sometimes your hair is just parched after all of that straightening and blow-drying. Deep condition once a week and make sure that you always use a leave-in treatment after shampooing and conditioning. Taking supplements like silica and eating things rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 (like hemp seed, nuts, and fish) will give your a hair, nails, and skin a silkier feel. If after all of this your hair is still freaking out, you might want to get it thinned out a little. I hope this was helpful.
