Help with layered hair?

Hi, I'm a girl and recently got my hair cut. I originally had long thick, slightly layered and thinned black hair. I got it cut shorter, so that it is longer at the back (v shaped?). I've got heaps of short thinned layered as well as a side fringe. I'm having troubles styling it, as I want a look where the layers can be easily seen (slightly messy) and I want my shorter layers upon the top to be a bit puffy.

what can I do to style my hair? gel? mousse? thanks

I have been living in Hong Kong for most of my life so I'm kinda experienced with layered hair problems. The best thing is to skip ( or decrease use of) ) hair conditoner when you wash your hair.; this will give your layered hair more texture. Don't use gel/ mousse coz it tends to make you hair heavy and the layers will go all fat and not obvious. I'd suggest you using hair wax/gum/clay instead. When using wax/gum/clay, make sure your hair is all clean and fully dry. Scoop a little clay/gum/wax on the tip of your finger ( the size of a dime ), rub against tip tips of your finger and start comb your finger through your hair from your roots to puff your hair on the top, and swipe you fingers through your bangs.

When I was in Hong Kong, I used Japanese brand hair clay/wax. I'm now living in California, and I'm using Garnier Fructis's Surf Hair Paste. ** Just remember not to use too much of the paste each time!! You don't wanna end up having oily looking hair!**

Good luck girl and a nice hair day! %26lt;3

Sounds like you could pretty much just flip your hair over and dry it, bent over it will give you volume and make your hair "messy" and layers visible. To get extra volume on the top get the biggest round brush you can find and dry the top of your hair with it to get some volume on top...but then you have your top layers curled under and the bottom layers straight. You could dry your whole head with the round brush, that would be the best way to do it but it is time consuming. The easiest way is to bend over and brush your hair forward then curl your bottom layer and grab some more hair a couple inches up dry it with the brush and then proceed that way up to the top of your head. Its kind of hard to do especially with thick hair. Hope I could help. You could just dry it regular and use a curling iron, but that is time consuming as well.

Gel holds longer than mousse. Try blowdrying it with your head upsidedown, then apply gel and style.
